Story
He inherited Baberton in 1789 on the death of his uncle, John Christie, an army captain and second son of James Christie of Newhall. His colonel the Earl of Berkeley gave him a lottery ticket which won the £10,000 prize, with which he purchased the estate of Baberton. (3)
