John and Helen Hall's family are one of the few of humbler circumstances who can be identified, in this period before available census records. When John died of typhus fever in 1816, Helen was left with four children (or, her husband's tax assessment suggests, six: the Charlotte Chapel baptism register is incomplete 1802-9). She was listed in the Post-office directory as proprietor of their spirit shop the year after his death, but then she disappears. Perhaps she remarried.
